KUCHING, Aug 15: The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) is planning to increase the number of stations across the State under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) to enhance emergency response efficiency, particularly in rapidly developing areas.
According to TVS, Sarawak Bomba director Jamri Masran said the proposal was among the main agendas presented during a courtesy call on Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at the Satria Pertiwi Complex today.
At the same time, the department also requested a special allocation from the Premier to obtain portable fire pumps to improve operational capacity.
“For example, in the recent forest fire at UiTM Mukah, we faced some problems with the pumps.
“From that case, the Sarawak Premier said he would look into ways to assist us,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Premier was also briefed on the number of existing fire stations and the strength of the department’s officers and logistics across Sarawak.
On August 2, the forest fire near UiTM Mukah was finally extinguished after a nine-day battle, affecting 75.32 hectares.
However, the fires near North City, Kuala Baram, in Miri and near SK Ulu Bauh in Dalat also saw firefighters and other agencies carrying out multiple-day operations. — DayakDaily
