KUCHING, Oct 28: The Sarawak government will adopt new principles to give local Bumiputera contractors more opportunities to be involved in state infrastructure projects in the near future.

Announcing this at the ‘Sarawak Bumiputera Entrepreneurs Awards’ last night, Chief Minister Abang Johari Tun Openg said Bumiputera contractors from Sarawak will be given the priority for such projects under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP).

Abang Johari said the plan to enable Bumiputera contractors to be part of a healthier business competition environment will be announced very soon.

“Infrastructure projects under 12MP will be tendered out soon. This include Rural Transformation Projects which has been allocated an average of about RM500 million for the past years.

“The plan include certain portions of infrastructure projects to be given to local Bumiputera contractors. This will not only help to better develop our local people by creating more job opportunities but it also helps to create a healthier competition environment among themselves.

“What I want you all to do now is to continue developing yourself through training programmes, especially now that we are in the digital and modern technology era,” he said.

He added that there will be some announcements made in the Sarawak Legislative Assembly sitting next month on how Sarawak can generate more funds to be the most developed state in Malaysia by 2030.  — DayakDaily
