MIRI, July 9: Minister for Transport-cum-Senadin assemblyman Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin is urging the Department of National Unity and Integration to set up more neighbourhood watch units (KRT) in his constituency to cater to the fast-growing population.
Presently, there are 34 KRT units in the Senadin constituency.
“For the past sixth term as an elected representative for Senadin constituency, (I have witnessed) a lot has changed apart from the growth of the population and infrastructure,” he said.
As such, with the growing development and population within Senadin, Lee envisaged the need for more KRT units to empower the local community besides helping to reduce crime rates.
“Senadin has transformed into a developing satellite town from a jungle since its inception some 30 years ago,” Lee pointed out last night during the KRT Miri Division ‘Segulai Sejalai’ gathering held at Naim Clubhouse Southlake Permyjaya.
To date, more than 18,000 residential, commercial and industrial units have been built in the area.
During last night’s programme, Lee also presented 23 food baskets to needy households.
Also present during the gathering was Miri Division unity officer Wilfred Ugap. — DayakDaily
