KUCHING, Nov 5: Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker Datuk Amar Mohd Asfia’s tenure has been extended for another three years, effective Nov 16, 2020 to last until 2023.

Asfia who holds the record as the longest serving Sarawak Speaker disclosed that his appointment as speaker began in 2000.

“Ya, I believe I’m the longest serving DUN speaker.

“I was first appointed deputy speaker in 1995 for five years and then appointed a speaker from the year 2000 until now. So, add another three years, I shall be serving the DUN for 23 years,” Asfia told news conference here today.

He explained that his appointment was made by the governor upon the advice of the chief minister.

“Nothing brilliant (from me since) nobody wants the job,” Asfia said in jest. — DayakDaily
