KUCHING, June 4: The body of a teenage girl who went missing while bathing in Sungai Katibas near Rumah Robert, Nanga Bajor, was discovered this morning, two days after she was reported missing.
According a news report by TVS, the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Centre (PGO) said at 10.44am, members of the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) found the victim’s body on the riverbank, about 1.5 kilometres from the longhouse.
“The victim was then taken to the jetty and handed over to the police at 10.54am for further action,” the statement said today.
The victim, Puteri Nazatul Akmal Zulkarnain, 13, was reported missing on Monday (June 2) while bathing in the river with her brother and three friends.
The search operation began immediately on June 2. On the third day (June 4), efforts resumed at 8.15am with surface water search techniques carried out along a five-kilometre stretch of the riverbank. The JBPM K9 Unit worked alongside longhouse residents to support the operation.
The search and rescue (SAR) operation involved four firefighters, three police officers, six APM personnel, 21 villagers, two members of the JBPM K9 Unit, five personnel from the JBPM Zone 4 Water Rescue Unit in Sibu, and three members of the Song Volunteer Fire Brigade (PBS). – DayakDaily
