KUCHING, Oct 15: A 53-year-old man who was reported missing in Kampung Emperoh Jambu, Padawan since Oct 7, has been found safe today, with only several minor injuries.
In a press statement, Padawan District Police Chief Barry William said the man emerged on his own from an oil palm plantation near his cousin’s house in Kampung Emperoh Jambu, Padawan. When found, he was weak and barefoot.
Initial examinations found several minor wounds on both ankles, as well as his wrists and arms. He was subsequently transported to Serian Hospital in a Fire and Rescue Department Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle for further treatment.
According to information provided by Bomba, the man had left his home at about 7.30pm on Oct 7 to hunt alone in a jungle behind his cousin’s house, approximately 3km from his own home. He had brought a shotgun with him.
When he had yet to return by 5pm the following day, Oct 8, his younger sibling went looking for him before notifying Bomba and lodging a police report.
A search and rescue (SAR) operation was then launched, involving personnel from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Bomba, the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), the People’s Volunteer Corps (RELA) and local villagers.
Barry, on behalf of the Sarawak Acting Police Commissioner, expressed his appreciation to all personnel and members of the local community who contributed to the operation.
He said the close cooperation between rescue agencies and the local community demonstrated the importance of solidarity, compassion and coordinated action in responding to emergencies to ensure the safety and well-being of the community. – DayakDaily
