Firefighters are seen wrapping the deceased's body after it was found.

KUCHING, Oct 14: A 33-year-old man from Desa Senadin in Miri was found dead after being reported missing since Thursday (Oct 12).

According to a report from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre today, the victim, Hafizan Sawal, was found at 9am today.

“The victim was found unconscious inside a drain by family members about 1.5km from the Bomba operations control centre and was pronounced dead by medical personnel from the Ministry of Health (MOH),” it said.

The deceased’s body was later handed over to the police for further action.

Based on Bomba’s initial information, they received a call regarding the incident from the victim’s brother-in-law on Oct 13 at 9.54pm, informing that the victim was last seen through a CCTV passing by a neighbour’s house at 10.48pm on Oct 12.

Following that, Bomba Lutong launched a search and rescue operation (SAR) with police personnel after acquiring information from the victim’s brother-in-law, who believed the victim was likely to be lost in the old cemetery about 3km from the house.

The SAR, however, was postponed at 10.41pm and continued today, which resulted in the deceased’s body being found. — DayakDaily
