KUCHING, March 1: A 69-year-old man from Rh Luang, Roban, Sarikei, who went missing in the jungles of Roban since Feb 23, was found by villagers today, just 300 metres away from his home alive but weak with minor injuries to his hands and feet.
According to the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the victim, Kamoi anak Paun, was reported missing by his family on Feb 24 after he failed to return home from a trip to the Roban market the previous day.
The Saratok control centre received the call from the Roban Police Station and immediately launched a search and rescue (SAR) operation, deploying teams consisting of firefighters and rescue personnels from the Sarikei firestation.
On the sixth day of the operation, at 9.10am this morning, the control centre was informed that villagers participating in the SAR effort had found the elderly man approximately 300 metres away from Rh Luang.
The victim, who suffers from high blood pressure and a weak heart condition, survived on just drinking water from the Roban river and eating candies he had brought with him.
The victim was then carried by the SAR team using a stretcher to his longhouse and handed over to the Saratok ambulance for further medical attention.
The SAR operation officially concluded at 11.50am. – DayakDaily
