MIRI, June 24: The remains of diver Sim How Hua was found at 10.50am today at 4.5 nautical miles from Marina jetty — at the same spot he was reported missing yesterday.

Two divers from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) found him at a depth of 12 metres from the surface, entangled in a fishing trap (bubu ropes) that he had attempted to lay in the area.

The late Sim had gone out to sea on Sunday morning with his brother, who is also a diver, and a boatman. After the 44-year-old dived to lay the fishing trap but failed to resurface after a certain period of time, the police were alerted at 6.10pm.

A search and rescue (SAR) operation was immediately mounted, led by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Miri.

MMEA Miri chief Captain Md Fauzi Othman, when met at Marina jetty today, said, “The deceased was still wearing his diving gear when they (Bomba divers) found his body.”

Also present at the jetty were Miri Bomba chief Supt Law Poh Kiong and Senator Alan Ling. — DayakDaily
