MARUDI, Aug 14: The body of 53-year-old Jonny Usat, who was reported missing in a river in Long Moh, Ulu Baram, on Wednesday (Aug 12), was found this morning after the search and rescue (SAR) operation entered its second day.
According to the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the victim’s body was found by residents of Kampung Long Tungan at about 8.20am, approximately two kilometres from the last location where he was seen drowning.
The Marudi station, together with the police, proceeded to the location after receiving a report from residents and confirmed the discovery at about 9am.
Firefighters and police personnel subsequently retrieved the body before it was placed in a body bag belonging to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and taken to the village for identification.
“The family confirmed that the body was that of Jonny, who was reported to have drowned.
“The SAR operation was brought under control at 9.30am and concluded at 1pm, but the overall operation is still awaiting the cause-of-death (COD) report from the Long Moh Health Ministry clinic,” said the department in a TVS report.
Jonny was feared to have been swept away while fishing at Sungai Ka Dadoq near Long Moh.
He was reportedly fishing with a net at around 3.30pm when he disappeared and was no longer seen in the area. — DayakDaily
