Miro retains Serembu with 1,650-vote majority

KUCHING, Dec 18: Serembu incumbent Miro Simuh retained his seat for his second term with a 1,650-vote majority.

The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate secured 4,068 votes in the 12th Sarawak State Election, defeating Iana Akam from Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) who managed to gain 2,418 votes.

Three other contenders comprising Jecky Anak Misieng from Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK), Michael Saweng from Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and Buln Ribos from Sarawak People’s Aspiration Party (Aspirasi) only received 257, 217 and 92 votes, respectively, and lost their deposits.

Serembu constituency was created in the 2015 redelineation exercise and is mandated to return a single member to the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) under the first-past-the-post voting system.

In the 2016 Sarawak Election, Miro was elected Serembu’s first assemblyman after he secured 3,452 votes with a majority of 1,397 votes, defeating independent candidate Nyomek Nyeap (2,055 votes), Athina Klaywa Sim from PKR (1,218) and Buln Ribos under State Reform Party (Star) who got 120 votes. — DayakDaily
