MIRI, Dec 15: A woman, in her 20s, from Miri fell victim to a fraudulent “Shopee 1212” voucher contest, losing a total of RM15,800.
Miri OCPD ACP Alexson Naga Chabu confirmed that the police received a report on Dec 14 regarding the incident.
“The unfortunate event transpired when the victim, an employee of a private company, received a phone call from an unidentified individual.
“The caller informed her that she had emerged as the winner of the ‘Shopee 1212’ contest,” he said in a statement today.
The victim, believing the caller, disclosed her bank account details, username, and even the password for her Internet banking, all through a link (https:/inki.ee/Shopee_1212) provided by the suspect.
Alexson stated that the victim also shared her TAC number and OTP with the suspect.
It was only later that she realised the extent of the deception after discovering that her entire life savings in the bank had been drained.
The case is currently under investigation, falling under Section 420 of the Penal Code. — DayakDaily
