MIRI, 21 May: The Miri Wireless Walk traders association on Friday has called on the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) to declare another round of the Movement Control Order (MCO), as the number of Covid-19 positive cases were currently quite alarming in Miri.

Its chairman Mohamad Abdullah Jamin said that SDMC should considered imposing MCO in Miri district as there were no signs of improvement in the number of Covid-19 cases.

Mohamad Abdullah added, following to the Covid-19 surge, SDMC should review the enforcement of the MCO to help curb the spread of Covid-19.

“On behalf of traders from Wireless Walk Miri, we want SDMC to review the enforcement of MCO in this district as we are experiencing a spike of Covid-19 positive cases,” he pointed out.

Abdullah was hoping that SDMC to impose a two-week MCO to help contain the Covid-19 cases, as he believed it (MCO) can help revive the business sectors which are badly affected by the pandemic since last year.

“I believe, with the temporary closure during MCO, it will help not only to revive the economic sectors, but contain the spread of Covid 19,” he opined.

He disclosed that since the number of Covid-19 cases were spiralling in Miri, business sectors, especially those involved in the food and beverage industry, have been badly affected. ā€” DayakDaily
