KUCHING, April 30: Two new Covid-19 clusters have been declared in Miri, which have been dubbed the Jalan Agama Cluster linked to a tuition centre with 38 positive cases and the Air Padang Cluster involving a government agency with 19 positive cases.
They were the two of the four new clusters declared in Sarawak today. The other two clusters involving longhouses are the Sungai Ranan Cluster in Kanowit with 32 cases and the Nangga Tajam Cluster in Selangau with 34 cases.
The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in its daily update report on Covid-19 situation, informed that the Jalan Agama Cluster in Miri involved a tuition centre with the index case or Case 23,061 being a 57-year-old local man who was detected from symptomatic screening.
Close contact screening on colleagues, family members and social contacts carried out by the Health Office uncovered 37 more cases.
As of today, SDMC reported that 95 individuals have been screened, whereby 11 tested negative while 46 are still awaiting lab tests results.
As for the Air Padang Cluster that involved a government agency, SDMC disclosed that the index case or Case 19,368 was detected from symptomatic screening in Kuching district when visiting family members here.
Close contact screening on workplace and family members carried out by the Health Office resulted in 18 more cases.
As of today, 203 individuals have been screened, whereby 95 tested negative while 89 are still awaiting lab tests results.
With four new clusters, Sarawak now has 75 active clusters, out of which 12 clusters recorded an increase in daily infections with a total of 57 cases today.
The clusters are Abak Bon which picked up 15 more cases, Taman Mesra Bako (9 cases), Sileng Dayak (6 cases), Sungai Gemuan, Jalan Disa and Jalan Roban Lama (5 cases each), Melugu (4 cases), Sungai Tuah (2 cases), Jalan Selirik (3 cases), while Putai, Rayang and Sungai Ngungun has one case each. — DayakDaily
