Miri records highest number of cases in Sarawak with 94 cases from total of 513 statewide

KUCHING, May 25: Miri topped the list as Sarawak registered 513 new Covid-19 cases today, with 317 cases or 61.79 per cent were detected in Miri, Bintulu, Sibu, Samarahan and Kuching.

Of the total positive cases, Miri reported 94 cases, followed by Bintulu (81), Sibu (49), Samarahan (48), Kuching (45), Kapit (30), Tatau (25), Selangau (21), Subis (12), Saratok (12), Tanjung Manis (11), Pakan (11), Simunjan (10), Mukah (10), Pusa (9), Kanowit (8), Asajaya (8), Bukit Mabong (6), Sri Aman (5), Meradong (3), Lubok Antu (3), Bau (3), Julau (3), Serian (3), Limbang (1), Sebauh (1) and Belaga (1).


The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement today said 77 out of the 513 cases were symptomatic.

As many as 440 cases comprised of individuals who had been instructed to undergo quarantine at designated places.

A total of 411 cases were screened after having contact to positive cases, 39 cases were detected from screening of symptomatic individuals, 34 from other screenings in health facilities and 29 individuals were linked to active clusters.

The State also recorded six new fatalities on the same day, bringing the State’s death toll to 261.

On the same day, Sarawak also reported 433 patients had recovered and discharged from hospitals statewide, bringing the total number of recovered and discharged cases to 35,867 or 82.78 per cent.

There are 7,101 individuals still undergoing treatment at hospital isolation wards in the State.

There were 513 new Persons-Under-Investigation (PUI) cases reported and none awaiting laboratory results.

SDMC also mentioned that Tanjung Manis and Tatau have turned from orange zones to red zones after reporting 46 and 58 local infection cases respectively today, bringing the total number of red zones in Sarawak to 24.

Meanwhile, Beluru and Tebedu have turned from red to orange after reporting 25 and 38 total local infection cases respectively within the past 14 days. Alongside the two districts classified as orange zones is Bau.

There are ten districts classified as yellow zones while Limbang and Telang Usan are classified as green zones. — DayakDaily
