Miri police nab 8 suspects for drug possession

MIRI, April 14: Police here arrested eight people including five women on Saturday evening for drug possession and seized RM25,965 worth of drugs.

The suspects, aged between 25 to 46 years, were nabbed in separate raids. A total of 213.19g of syabu and 31 Erimin 5 (9.77g) pills were confiscated.

Out of eight suspects arrested, a woman and a man aged 46 and 32 respecited, are being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which provides for the death sentence if convicted.

Both suspects were detained in a room of a homestay in Miri, and police seized five packets of syabu (190g) and eight Erimin 5 pills weighing 2.5g.

According to Sarawak Narcotics Crime Investigation Department chief Supt Sahar Abdul Latif, the first arrest was of a male, 39, detained by the police around 6.30pm on Saturday at a five-foot way in the city centre. Drugs were discovered in his possession during a body inspection on him.

“Our team discovered syabu weighing 22.49g and 23 Erimin 5 pills during a body search on him,” he said.

During the raids, police also confisticated a BMW 320i worth RM45,000 and a Yamaha R25 motorcycle worth RM20,000.

Other suspects are being investigated under Section 39A and Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Acts 1952. — DayakDaily
