MIRI, Aug 18: Pet owners in Miri are strongly encouraged to take advantage of the ongoing free mass vaccination against rabies campaign, which is currently being held by the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS).
The vaccination drive, which began last week, kicked off in Senadin Village, where a significant number of dogs were vaccinated.
This week, the campaign moved to Taman Awam Miri, and as of today, over 2,400 dogs have received their vaccinations.
Today (August 18) alone, more than 250 dogs were vaccinated at Taman Awam Miri.
A local resident expressed appreciation for the initiative, noting that such services make it easier for people who live nearby to ensure their dogs are vaccinated.
“DVS Miri division are committed to providing this service free of charge, and they look forward to working closely with nearby residents to ensure their dogs are protected against rabies,” said Minister for Transport Sarawak-cum-Senadin assemblyman Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin.
The department is also encouraging dog walkers and pet owners to make sure their pets are vaccinated, especially if they haven’t received an anti-rabies shot in the past year.
The campaign aims to control the spread of rabies in Miri, which, according to local authorities, is currently free from the disease. With the close cooperation of residents, the department hopes to maintain Miri’s rabies-free status.
The free mass vaccination drive will continue throughout the month, and pet owners are urged to take their pets to the designated locations to receive the vaccination. — DayakDaily
