KUCHING, Oct 28: Miri Marathon 2022 (MM22), which is supposed to be held on Nov 6, is called off to give way for the 15th General Election (GE15).
According to MM22 event director Yeo Hui Teck, all participants registered for MM22 will be automatically deferred to next year’s event on March 19, 2023, with no extra charge.
“We wish to announce that MM22, which is scheduled to be held on Nov 6, 2022 (Sunday) at Taman Bulatan, Miri City is called-off after consultation with various stakeholders and with runners’ safety our utmost priority.
“It is called off due to the unavailability of staff and officers from uniform bodies since most of them will be on duty on nomination day for the coming GE15, which falls on the eve of MM22, Nov 5.
“The organiser of MM has decided that all participants who have registered for MM22 will be automatically deferred to next year’s event on March 19, 2023, Miri Marathon 2023 (MM23) at zero cost,” he said in a notice issued recently.
Yeo further said participants of MM22 who have already made arrangements to travel to Miri City, as well as local Mirian participants, are welcome to collect their event tee and goodies packs for MM22 at Boulevard Shopping Mall on Nov 4 and 5.
“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused.
“In addition, Miri Marathon decided to hold a 10km Friendship Run at Taman Bulatan on Nov 6, 2022, for those who have signed up with MM22. Details of the event will be announced soon,” he said. — DayakDaily
