Miri man falls victim to fake loan ad, loses RM53k

MIRI, March 13: A man from Miri, working as a supervisor in a private company, tragically lost his life savings of RM53,000 after falling victim to a nonexistent personal loan advertisement scam.

Miri OCPD ACP Alexson Naga Chabu confirmed receiving a report on the incident on March 12.

“The victim, in his 40s, was scrolling through Facebook when he came across a fake loan advertisement that caught his eye,” ACP Alexson stated.

Investigations revealed that the victim made a total of 12 online transactions to the suspect, believing he was securing a loan.

However, he became suspicious when the suspect continuously requested additional payments.

Fortunately, the victim eventually realized that he was being scammed and reported the incident to the authorities.

The case is now being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which pertains to cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property. — DayakDaily
