KUCHING, July 3: A histopathology laboratory worth RM1.835 million has been constructed and contributed to the Miri Hospital as part of the Shin Yang Group of Companies’ (Shin Yang) corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme.

According to the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), Minister for Transport Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin stated that the project began on August 17, 2021, and was completed on March 30, 2022, with documents submitted on April 6, 2022.

He mentioned that the laboratory would begin operating in stages starting this month once all laboratory equipment had been installed.

“With this laboratory, sample deliveries to the laboratory at Sarawak General Hospital can be minimised, and sample reading results can be accelerated for smooth and continuous clinical management of patients,” he said on Friday (July 1) during the handover ceremony of Shin Yang’s Histopathology Laboratory to Miri Hospital.

Lee also expressed his gratitude and pride for Shin Yang’s efforts to establish the laboratory.

He witnessed the official handover of the laboratory by Shin Yang Group’s executive vice-chairman and managing director Datuk James Ling Lu Kiong to Miri Hospital director Dr Jack Wong.

This laboratory project includes 313.45 square metres of building components, laboratory equipment components, air conditioning unit components, and laboratory ventilation systems.
