Miri Hospital’s Endoscopy Unit catches fire

A section of the Endoscopy Unit was damaged in the incident.

MIRI, Oct 31: A fire broke out at the Endoscopy Unit of Miri Hospital on Tuesday night, but, fortunately, no one was hurt in the incident.

In a press statement, the hospital’s director, Dr Jack Wong, said the alarm was triggered at 8.27pm, and electricity supply to the affected room was immediately cut off as a safety measure.


Miri fire chief Supt Law Poh Kiong said 16 firemen from Lopeng station, led by Jimmy Suhaili, rushed to the scene when the distress call was received at 8.48pm.

The firefighters managed to put the fire under control within minutes upon their arrival, and wrapped up the operation at 9.16pm.

The entrance and inside of the Endoscopy Unit, were slightly damaged.

Investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire. — DayakDaily
