Miri Fire and Rescue Covid-19 frontliners receive much needed PPE

MIRI, March 29: The Fire and Rescue Department here received protective equipment to help their bid in strengthen government efforts to curb the spread of Covid-19.

The items, courtesy of Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) and various non governmental organisations (NGOs), consisted of face masks, face shields, disposables gloves, safety goggles, bleach and disinfectant spray.

SUPP Piasau chief Datuk Sebastian Ting presented the assistance to Miri Fire and Rescue chief, Supt Law Poh Kiong, at Lopeng fire station here today.

“I was told by Supt Law that Bomba (Fire and Rescue) Miri is facing shortage of these items and I was surprised that Bomba Miri does not have any allocation to buy all these essential protection supplies and disinfectant sprays, which are crucial during this challenging period.

“In light of the difficulties faced by the frontliners including Bomba personnel, SUPP Piasau together with other NGOs have come up to help and distribute these essential items,” Ting told reporters during the presentation.

The Piasau assemblyman added that apart from the medical staff, frontliners such as the police, armed forces and Bomba should be given the best protection and support in the fight against Covid-19.

Later, Ting was briefed on the usage of Bio Hazard Decon Canvas by Law.

“This Decon Canvas would be placed on the ground, to remove contamination to a negligible risk level,” said Law. — DayakDaily
