MIRI, Dec 20: A businesswoman in Miri has fallen victim to an online scam, losing a total of RM17,000 in a fraudulent “purchase” deal for a used car.
Miri OCPD ACP Alexson Naga Chabu confirmed the incident, stating that the victim, in her 40s, became interested in buying an imported car after seeing an advertisement on Facebook offering the vehicle for less than RM20,000.
The report on the incident was filed on Dec 18 (Monday).
According to Alexson, the victim completed transactions totaling RM17,000 to a bank account provided by the scammer.
He advised the public to exercise caution before making decisions to purchase vehicles online.
The case is currently under investigation under Section 420 of the Penal Code. — DayakDaily
