MIRI, June 18: The Miri Airport Interchange with a length of 850 meters, scheduled to open to motorists from midnight on June 20, is expected to help overcome the current traffic congestion faced by motorists travelling from Taman Tunku towards the Kuala Baram area, especially during peak hours.

In disclosing this to local media during a site visit on Saturday morning, Minister of Transport Sarawak Datuk Sri Lee Kim Shin said the project is part of the Pan Borneo Highway.

“Once the construction work is complete for this section, the contractor will move to Pujut Corner and the Sungai Miri Dual Carriageway Bridge at the Padang Kerbau Interchange area to finish the section there,” he explained.

Lee added that the Padang Kerbau Interchange section is expected to be completed by mid-July this year.

“The construction of these interchange roads are meant to reduce congestion along the area,” he pointed out.

During this morning’s site visit, Lee was accompanied by Northern Zone manager of Pan Borneo Highway Unit (PBHU) JKR Sarawak Ir Siaw Ming Chian. — DayakDaily
