KUCHING, Feb 16: Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) is going all out to fight the spread of Covid-19 in the Samarahan area.

Following Samarahan being declared a Covid-19 red zone earlier today, MPKS chairman Datuk Peter Minos said the council will strengthen its enforcement of standard operating procedures (SOPs) at business premises in Kota Samarahan and cooperate with the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) to break the chain of Covid-19 transmission in the district.

“We will strengthen and reinforce the enforcement of the SOP. We take guidance from SDMC and we will do all we can to fight against Covid-19.

“On SDMC’s advice, we will immediately determine and decide what public places must be closed and what can be opened, what activity can go on and what can not,” he said in a statement today.

On another note, Minos urged Samarahan residemt to do their part by abiding with the SOPs and not to panic but stay calm.

He also urged them to be united and cooperate with the council in its relentless fight against Covid-19.

There were 19 Covid-19 cases reported in Samarahan today.
