KUCHING, Jan 13: The state of emergency declared by Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah is to ensure Malaysia’s political stability, opines political pundit Datuk Peter Minos

The former Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) deputy information chief believed the state of emergency has provided a respite to rein in ‘bad politicians’ who want to topple the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government during the current Covid-19 situation.

“Prime Minister (Tan Sri) Muhyiddin Yassin badly needs an emergency because he seeks political peace and stability.

“Facing surging Covid-19 infections require much focus and attention.

“And a few bad United Malays National Organisation (Umno) leaders seriously disturbing (sic) with bad intentions.

“If the (Covid-19) pandemic is not well handled and dealt with, Malaysians would suffer much,” he asserted in a statement.

Minos said Muhyiddin and his government had no choice or alternative other than to declare an emergency.

He opined there was no other way to save the people and the country unless an emergency was declared.

Under an emergency, Parliament sessions will be suspended temporarily and the general election cannot be held. —DayakDaily
