KUCHING, July 25: Immediate action will be taken to at least cover the minimum cost incurred by affected parties following any damage to public utilities caused by the implementation of logistics and public transport construction projects in Sarawak.
In a TVS news report, Sarawak Minister of Transport Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin gave this assurance, saying the ministry remains attentive and open in addressing any issues arising under its jurisdiction.
“The ministry is committed to promptly addressing such problems, and we will ensure that at the very least, the minimum cost borne by those affected will be covered,” he said when met after officiating the Refinement and Enhancement Workshop for the Free School Transportation here today.
He was responding to a media statement issued by the Kuching Water Board (KWB) on Thursday (July 24) regarding recurring damage to water pipelines in Samarahan due to construction works under the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) by the appointed contractor.
The incidents resulted in water supply disruptions in several areas, including Desa Ilmu in Kota Samarahan on July 18 and the most recent case at Jalan Wan Alwi, Tabuan Jaya, on July 22.
KUTS is a public transport project currently being implemented by Sarawak Metro to enhance mobility and the efficiency of logistics services in the city. — DayakDaily
