KUCHING, July 14: The Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government will have their State Housing Committee (SHC) set up a taskforce by the end of July to look at abandoned or unfinished housing projects in Sarawak, says its deputy minister Michael Tiang.
Tiang said even though the number of abandoned and unfinished projects is low at five per cent compared to the rest of Malaysia, it cannot be neglected.
“I hope the taskforce, manned by the right people from the right government agencies will look into this matter and this also includes all kinds of issues, including late issuance of land titles, late delivery and others,” Tiang told reporters at the Sarawak Housing and Real Estate Developer Association (Sheda) Property Expo 2023 held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) after he launched it on behalf of Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg today.
He went on to say that the ministry will bring other government agencies to come together to resolve all these issues and reduce the number of abandoned projects.
“We need to form a taskforce to look into this issue because we see this not a good image for Sarawak.
“Though the Sarawak economy is flowing and is booming, but you still see sick housing projects along some of the main roads, which I think is not nice for the Sarawak property industry.
“I think we want to look into it and how to avoid and reduce this kind of abandoned or unfinished projects,” he added. — DayakDaily
