KUCHING, Nov 12: Malaysian Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) aims to strengthen standard operating procedures (SOP) to prevent cases of kids left in vehicles which could lead to deaths.

Its Minister Dato Sri Nancy Shukri noted the worrying emergence of Forgotten Baby Syndrome cases especially when she has been frequently asked about the ministry’s action towards them.

“Following many questions regarding this matter, I feel that we have to find a way on what is it that can help to strengthen our SOP.

“Thus, insya-Allah, we will strengthen the SOP to ensure that we can prevent the hot car deaths,” she said during the ‘Sarawak Media Night with Dato Sri Nancy Shukri’ event held at Grand Margherita Hotel here earlier tonight.

In a report by TV3 dated Nov 10, Nancy announced that her ministry has proposed for kindergartens or nurseries to contact the parents if the children under their care are not present.

This came following several fatal cases of young children left in cars: a two-year-old baby girl who was left in a vehicle for more than 7 hours in Petaling Jaya on Nov 9, a 16-month-old baby girl left for hours in Terengganu on Oct 24, and an 8-month-old girl left for 10 hours on Oct 6. — DayakDaily
