KUCHING, Feb 26: National Unity (KPN) Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang states that reciting the National Principles (Rukun Negara) is of great significance because it fosters patriotism, nationalism, and unity among Malaysians.

Aaron told reporters this following the Sarawak-level 2023 Harmony Progranme, which was held today at the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) complex here.

“Following the Malaysian national anthem song ‘Negaraku’, reciting the Rukun Negara is required to instil patriotism, nationalism, and so on.

“Because people will forget if they do not recite the Rukun Negara. We have now proposed to the government, through KPN, that the Rukun Negara syllabus be implemented beginning at the nursery level.

“Even now, we can see Rukun Negara clubs in schools and universities. In universities, we have Rukun Negara secretariats that engage in debates and democracy, which is crucial because they promote national unity and harmony,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, Harmony Programme 2023 was held in conjunction with World Interfaith Harmony Week.

According to a press release, the primary goal of organising the programme is to improve and strengthen understanding and harmony among religious believers, as well as to spread the message of tolerance and unity in order to maintain peace and well-being among the people of the country.

The programme was co-organised by KPN through the Sarawak Department of National Unity and National Integration and the Sarawak government through Sarawak’s Unit for Other Religions (Unifor).

Also present was KPN secretary-general Datuk Noridah Abdul Rahim. — DayakDaily
