KUCHING, July 24: A petrol station along the Kuching-Serian Road is being investigated by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Sarawak following a viral complaint regarding the sale of RON95 petrol to foreign-registered vehicles.
KPDN Sarawak director Matthew Dominic Barin said a team of four enforcement officers launched an investigation on July 20 after receiving the complaint through a Facebook page.
“The case is being investigated under Subregulation 12A of the Control of Supplies Regulations 1974, under the Control of Supplies Act 1961, for allegedly violating the Supply Controller’s directive prohibiting the sale of RON95 to foreign-registered vehicles,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (July 23).
He stressed that KPDN Sarawak acted swiftly to ensure compliance with the relevant regulations and to protect the rights of local consumers.
“KPDN Sarawak welcomes reports from the public and other agencies in our efforts to safeguard consumer rights and ensure that only Malaysian citizens benefit from the government-subsidised RON95 fuel.
“Distributors and traders are reminded to always adhere to existing laws and regulations,” he added. — DayakDaily
