MIRI, Aug 22: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) might consider renegotiating with local livestock farmers in managing the retail price of eggs and chicken in Sarawak.
“The Ministry is fully aware of the retail price for eggs and chicken in Sarawak, and in fact in Labuan, Sabah, it is much more expensive compared to Peninsular Malaysia’s market price,” said the ministry’s Deputy Minister Fuziah Salleh on Tuesday in Miri during a press conference after the prize giving ceremony of the national level Consumer Interactive Challenge-School Consumer Club (CIP-KPS) 2023.
Fuziah was pressed on the retail ceiling price of chicken and eggs in Sarawak, which many claim to be much more expensive compared to Peninsular Malaysia.
She said it is her ministry’s hope that through this negotiation with livestock farmers, it can help maintain the retail ceiling price for chicken and eggs for Sarawak.
In Miri and Marudi divisions, the ceiling price for standard whole chicken is capped at RM9.80 per kilogramme, while chicken eggs at RM0.47 each for Grade A, RM0.45 for Grade B and RM0.43 for Grade C each. ā DayakDaily
