KUCHING, Dec 5: Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture Dato Sri Tiong King Sing has been invited to Fudan University to deliver a keynote address, promoting Malaysia’s vibrant cultural and tourism attractions to the Chinese public ahead of Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VMY2026).
In a press release issued by Fudan University Malaysia Alumni Association president Adrian Wong, this followed a courtesy call by a delegation from the association to Tiong at Parliament in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday (Dec 4).
During the meeting, the alumni also proposed that Tiong—who is Bintulu MP and Dudong assemblyman—engage as a guest speaker to share Malaysia’s tourism development experience with students from Fudan and other Chinese universities, strengthening youth and cultural exchanges between both nations.
“As chairman of the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) and member of Parliament for Bintulu, Tiong was also briefed on Fudan University’s plan to establish its first medical research institute in Southeast Asia in Miri.
“The alumni welcomed the minister’s continued support and involvement in fostering deeper cooperation in regional tourism, education, and scientific research,” said the press release.
At the same time, the alumni also expressed admiration for Tiong’s leadership in advancing Malaysia’s tourism sector.
Also present were Fudan University Malaysia Alumni Association committee member Dr Veronica Ch’ng Ee Cheik, vice president Wong Chew Lin, and ‘Friend of Fudan’ Yu Baoqing.
On June 11, Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian led a delegation to Fudan University, where he and Fudan University president and dean of the Shanghai Medical College, Professor Jin Li, witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish the ‘Joint Institute of Innovation in Traditional and Western Medicine’ in Miri.
The institute will become Fudan University’s first overseas branch, marking a significant milestone in the university’s international development. — DayakDaily
