KUCHING, May 16: Sarawak continues to demonstrate a strong commitment to elevating the education sector, including becoming the first State to align with the federal government in implementing the provisions of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), specifically in education.
In a TVS report, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said this approach is one of the matters that has been finalised together with the Sarawak government as a reflection of the spirit of cooperation between the State and federal governments in elevating the education sector.
“This is what we want from time to time, to see Sarawak’s commitment alongside us in elevating the nation’s education sector.
“I see that commitment in our partners in Sarawak, and we will ensure that our shared goals, especially in matters of educational importance, are implemented together,” she said.
She said this during her speech at the ‘Majlis Malam Berambeh Segulai Sejalai’ in conjunction with the 54th National Teachers’ Day 2025 celebration held here on Thursday night (May 15).
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg was also in attendance.
Fadhlina also touched on this year’s Teachers’ Day theme, ‘Teachers as Drivers of National Education Reform’, which she described as a meaningful theme and not mere rhetoric.
“This theme is something we are actively working on. We want to ensure that teachers are with us in our earnest efforts to uplift the dignity of national education,” she said.
At the same time, she expressed her appreciation to all educators in Sarawak who have contributed to the improvement in the State’s academic performance.
This includes the impressive achievements in the recent Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination, which is seen as a clear indicator of the success of collaborative efforts among various stakeholders.
Fadhlina expressed hope that this success would catalyse more initiatives and collaborations to strengthen the educational ecosystem, not only in Sarawak but across the country. — DayakDaily
