KUCHING, Aug 21: Federal Minister of Works and Kapit MP, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, has clarified that advocating for Sarawak’s rights should not be misconstrued as a desire to provoke conflict or separation from Malaysia.

Nanta emphasised that his role as a leader requires him to voice concerns when Sarawak is treated unfairly but reiterated that this does not equate to advocating for separation from Malaysia.

“Mana mungkin saya nak bawa Sarawak keluar Malaysia (How could I possibly take Sarawak out of Malaysia)?

“But as human beings, if we feel we are not treated fairly, we have the right to speak up.

“As leaders and politicians, it is our responsibility to voice our concerns. It doesn’t mean we want to fight or leave. We just speak out, that is our duty,” he explained.

The minister shared these comments during the ‘X’klusif Bersama Syahril’ podcast interview, which premiered on Aug 19 and was featured in Nanta’s Facebook Reels.

He further highlighted that this vocal approach is a hallmark of Sarawak’s leadership.

Citing other prominent Sarawakian leaders, including Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, he noted that the sentiment of putting Sarawak first is shared by many.

“We are all fighting for Sarawak. There is nothing wrong with that,” he added.

Nanta further clarified that the goal is not to provoke conflict or to infringe upon the rights of others but to ensure that Sarawak’s rights are upheld and its interests protected within Malaysia. — DayakDaily
