KUCHING, March 18: Some sports events should be held in Sarawak if Malaysia decides to host the Commonwealth Games, says Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

Acknowledging that the federal government is still deliberating the matter, Abdul Karim, who is Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED) Sarawak, opined Malaysia should organise it if it is financially capable.

“If Malaysia is going to organise it, I would want to see some of the sports events be held in Sarawak,” he said during a press conference after the launching ceremony of the What About Kuching (WAK) Call for Proposal, held at a local hotel here today.

He added that even the last two stages of the Petronas Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) 2024 will be held in Sarawak.

“We should not be having only good events in West Malaysia and leave the two States (Sarawak and Sabah) behind.

“Be it sports events or festivals, everything should be shared,” he said.

Earlier today, federal Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh announced that Sarawak will host the last two stages of LTdL, namely the the 199.3km penultimate stage on Oct 5, from Miri to Bintulu, and the final stage, on Oct 6, in Bintulu. — DayakDaily
