KUCHING, Oct 14: The Mufti (Federal Territories) Bill 2024 will not be enforced in Sarawak and Sabah, says Sarawak Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Minister Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

Therefore, he called on Sarawak and Sabah non-governmental organisations (NGOs) not to worry.

“If (the mufti bill is) approved, it will only cover the Federal Territories,” said Abdul Karim when met in Kuching today.

He added that Islamic law is within the jurisdiction of the states, and the Federal Territories bill is not applicable in Sarawak and Sabah.

According to Abdul Karim, the bill has not yet been approved, and there may be representatives who do not support it.

Previously, several NGOs from Sarawak and Sabah expressed their opposition to the bill, which they claim could bypass Parliament and courts. — DayakDaily
