KUCHING, Feb 6: Construction of the Pan Borneo Highway package (WPC-04) in the Bukit Begunan section is expected to be completed by November this year.

Works Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the project was delayed due to the construction of a rockfill embankment to replace the original design of earth fill embankment that failed on August 2019.

According to Nanta, this is important because it will prepare this package as best as possible to ensure the safety of road users using this section.

“There are financial implications involved, but this is not a big problem because the need to ensure the safety of road users is more important,” he told reporters during a press conference after conducting a working visit to the Bukit Begunan section today.

When asked about the financial implication, Nanta said it is about RM70 million.

“We will apply for approval at the Cabinet later. I hope it will be approved. Since this project is important, I am sure they will support what we are asking for,” he added.

To date, the overall progress of the rockfill embankment construction is at 49.71 per cent. — DayakDaily
