KUCHING, Aug 28: The Sarawak government has no plans to increase the funding for Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) ahead of the 2024 Malaysia Games (Sukma).
Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED) Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said increment of funds will not influence the players’ performance unless they have their own effort to succeed.
“Even if they were allocated RM10 million and if the funds were not utilised properly, success will not come.
“If their salaries were paid up to RM50,000 and RM70,000, the money will only go to their salaries,” he told reporters after officiating at the Siol International Mountain Bike Challenge (SIMBC) 2023 prize presentation ceremony held at MTB Track, Bukit Siol here yesterday (Aug 27).
The FAS has been allocated RM350,000 by MYSED for this year.
Leading up to Sukma 2024, Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) and FAS will work together to prepare a strong Sarawak football team.
Abdul Karim who is also Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts also mentioned that MYSED will assist football clubs to raise funds but the amount will not be the same as the previous amount—up to more than RM10 million. — DayakDaily
