KUCHING, July 15: Malaysia is looking to attract more Australian golf enthusiasts to come to the country through a partnership with Go Golfing, a well-known golf tourism company based in Australia.

In a Facebook post, Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture Malaysia, Dato Seri Tiong King Sing, said this followed a meeting with the company represented by its business development manager, Adrian Lawson.

“Go Golfing’s achievements speak for themselves, and I expressed hope that the company would consider organising golf tournaments in Malaysia in the future. We also explored ways to attract more Australian golf enthusiasts to travel to Malaysia for tournaments and leisure,” said Tiong.

During the meeting, Lawson shared that they are familiar with Malaysia’s golfing assets and plan to further study and assess golf courses across the country.

They also aim to conduct site visits and select one or two courses to host competitions or friendly matches, potentially adding a golf-themed highlight to the Visit Malaysia Year (VMY) 2026 calendar.

Lawson also revealed that Go Golfing’s World Masters Championship spans across Southeast Asia and draws over 1,000 participants annually.

“For 2026, they are considering hosting a leg of the championship in Kuala Lumpur, which is expected to bring in around 400 to 500 golfers.

“I reiterated the ministry’s full support in welcoming Go Golfing into the Malaysian market and thanked them for their willingness to collaborate in developing golf tourism.

“I believe this partnership has great potential to attract more international golfers to experience Malaysia’s fairways,” said Tiong, who is also the assemblyman for Dudong and MP for Bintulu. — DayakDaily
