KUCHING, Nov 18: Proposals for housing development projects will be required to allocate sites for elevated water supply tanks and reservoirs in future, says Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi.

Julaihi, who is Minister of Utility and Telecommunication (MUT) Sarawak, said it will enable coordination between his ministry and parties involved to construct water tanks or reservoirs to ensure stable water supply to the area.

“With the growing development of housing areas throughout Sarawak, it will impact the water supply pressure in the long-term and provision for this site is important especially in residential areas,” he said during a press conference at Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) Complex here today.

Julaihi also suggested that water supply tanks be built in the attic of each house in residential areas to ensure stable water supply pressure.

He said the previous design of having a tank in the attic should be maintained and not bypassed when giving future approval.

“That is why we need to cooperate with all relevant ministries and agencies, so that this will be taken note of in the near future because water supply is crucial

“We would like that to be considered and taken into account before any approval is given,” he added. — DayakDaily
