KUCHING, Feb 26: The government is committed to continuing and expediting the implementation of the Sarawak-Sabah Link Road and the Pan Borneo Highway in Sabah, says Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

Nanta, who is Minister of Works (JKR) said these projects are estimated to involve a total cost of RM20 billion and roads spanning more than 1,000 kilometers.

He said this in a Facebook post yesterday when welcoming Budget 2023 presented by Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Friday (Feb 24).

Meanwhile, Nanta also thanked the Prime Minister for allocating RM8.439 billion to his ministry, an increase of 15 per cent compared to the RM7.306 billion received in 2022.

According to Nanta, Budget 2023 indirectly witnessed the government’s efforts to speed up public infrastructure projects.

He said this involves maintenance and upgrading of federal roads with an allocation of RM2.7 billion in addition to RM300 million specifically for G1 to G4 contractors.

He also said a sum of RM100,000 is also allocated for the District Engineer to immediately rectify road potholes based on complaints received from the public.

He added, at the same time, RM50 million was set aside to install street lights, especially in accident-prone areas throughout the country. — DayakDaily
