MIRI, Oct 21: A discussion with various ministries will be carried out with technical and vocational education and training (TVET) institutions to coordinate courses aimed at boosting TVET graduates’ job prospects, says Minister of Youth and Sports Hannah Yeoh.

At the same time, a smart partnership between TVET and workplace industries will be further expanded to address the demand-supply mismatch.

“This is part of the federal government’s efforts to close the gap of employability mismatch demand-supply in the TVET courses,” she said after attending the National Skills Institute for Youths (IKBN) Miri’s 15th convocation ceremony today.

A total of 117 students received certificates in Automotive Technology (95), Hospitality Technology (62), and Mechanical Technology (20).

Yeoh added that the programmes designed and offered at TVET institutions aim to equip students with hands-on job training, which provides knowledge and skills for employment.

The government, she added, aimed to increase the skilled workforce to 35 per cent by 2030.

Meanwhile, Yeoh urged all elected representatives (YBs) to do an inventory check on sports facilities within their respective constituencies for regular maintenance purposes.

“Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, in his Budget 2024 speech, has allocated RM50 million to the Ministry of Youth and Sports to improve sports facilities nationwide,” she said.

Thus, she called on all community leaders at the grassroots to work closely with their respective YBs.
