KUCHING, July 27: The Daro Festival, one of the main events in the district’s tourism calendar, demonstrates the Sarawak government’s ongoing commitment to strengthening the rural tourism industry, which is rich in cultural heritage and natural uniqueness.
In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) report, Sarawak Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, said that his ministry consistently supports high-impact programmes like the Daro Festival, which not only promotes domestic tourism but also creates economic opportunities for local residents.
“Sarawak is very active in organising various events and festivals. Every week, there is sure to be a ceremony or programme taking place in different districts. This not only invigorates the tourism sector but also has a direct economic impact on the community,” he said.
He made these remarks during the official opening ceremony of the festival on Saturday (July 26).
Elaborating further, Abdul Karim also informed that the Sarawak government has tabled the highest State budget in Malaysia for the year 2025, amounting to RM15.8 billion.
According to him, a large portion of the allocation is directed towards infrastructure development and improvements in public facilities, including those that support the growth of the rural tourism sector.
This year’s Daro Festival features a variety of exciting activities, including cultural performances, local product sales, traditional competitions, water sports, government department exhibitions, and performances by guest artists—all of which have received an enthusiastic response from visitors.
The festival is expected to draw thousands of visitors from within and outside the district, thereby contributing to the growth of the local tourism sector and the socio-economic development of the local population.
