Minister: 16 fibre optic hub projects in Igan expected to be completed this year

KUCHING, Oct 18: A total of 16 Point of Presence (PoP) fibre optic hub projects in phase two will be implemented in the Igan parliamentary constituency, the Dewan Rakyat was informed today.

According to a TVS news report, Deputy Communications and Digital Minister Teo Nie Ching said the projects will be implemented in stages and are expected to be fully completed this year.

“Based on information from the contractor, they were able to complete several projects in the area this year.


“For PoP phase one, a total of 60 projects throughout Sarawak have been completed and two of them are in Igan.

“Meanwhile, for the whole of Sarawak for phase two, there are six projects out of 681 projects that have been implemented and the rest are expected to be completed by Oct 31, 2025 in stages,” she was quoted as saying.

She was responding to a question by Ahmad Johnie Zawawi (Gabungan Parti Sarawak-Igan) regarding the status of PoP implementation in his area.

Teo also informed that PoP throughout Sarawak will be implemented approximately 10 per cent this year while 50 per cent in 2024 and 40 per cent will be completed by 2025.

“A total of seven of the 14 new towers have been completed and are operating in the Igan parliamentary constituency,” she added. — DayakDaily
