MetMalaysia: Thundershowers predicted to shift to central Sarawak tonight

KUCHING, March 24: Thunderstorms and heavy rain are predicted to continue in Sarawak tonight but the bad weather would shift more towards the central region.

According to a notice by Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) issued at 6pm today, the affected areas are Sarikei, Sibu, Kapit (Song, Kapit and Belaga), Bintulu (Tatau and Sebauh), Miri (Subis, Beluru and Marudi) and Limbang.

The bad weather in the said areas is expected to continue until 9pm tonight.

Earlier, Met Malaysia predicted thunderstorms in Kuching, Serian, Samarahan and Sri Aman divisions in the wee hours.

The similar alert was issued again at 12.50pm for Lundu and Kuching areas, followed by Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei (Pakan and Julau), Mukah (Dalat and Mukah), Kapit (Song) and Limbang (Lawas).

By 4.45pm, the thunderstorms started to affect more areas, namely Kuching (Bau and Kuching), Serian, Sarikei, Sibu, Kapit (Song and Kapit), Bintulu (Tatau and Sebauh), Miri (Subis, Beluru and Marudi) and Limbang.

A thunderstorm warning is issued when there are signs of a thunderstorm with a rain intensity of more than 20 mm/hour that is close to or expected to last for more than an hour.
