MetMalaysia issues thunderstorm warning for Kuching, other areas in Sarawak until 2pm (April 24)

KUCHING, April 24: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning for several areas in Sarawak this afternoon.

Anticipated weather conditions include thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds affecting Kuching, Serian (Serian), Samarahan, Betong, Sarikei (Pakan, Sarikei, and Meradong), Sibu (Sibu and Selangau), Mukah, Kapit (Kapit), and Bintulu. The warning, issued at 12.30pm today, remains in effect until 2pm.

“A warning is issued when there are signs of a thunderstorm with a rain intensity greater than 20 mm/hour that is approaching or expected to last for more than an hour. A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning that is valid for a maximum of six hours per release,” it highlighted. — DayakDaily
