KUCHING, Dec 21: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued continuous heavy rain warnings for Sarawak and other states under three categories: Danger, Bad, and Alert.

According to a statement released by MetMalaysia at 3pm today, the Continuous Heavy Rain (Danger) warning is issued when signs indicate that continuous heavy rain is expected to occur, with total rainfall exceeding 150 mm within 24 hours.

The Continuous Heavy Rain (Bad) warning is issued when signs indicate that continuous heavy rain is expected to occur, with total rainfall exceeding 60 mm within six hours, whereas the Continuous Heavy Rain (Alert) warning is issued when rain/thunderstorms are occurring/are expected to occur in an area for more than six hours.

Under the Continuous Heavy Rain (Alert) warning, the affected areas are expected to occur in Sarawak are Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu, Mukah, Miri (Subis, Beluru, Miri, and Marudi), and Limbang from Friday, Dec 23, 2022 through Saturday, Dec 24, 2022; in Sabah are Inland (Sipitang, Kuala Penyu, and Beaufort), West Coast, Sandakan (Telupid, Kinabatangan, Beluran, and Sandakan) and Kudat, and WP Labuan from Friday, Dec 23, 2022 through Monday, Dec 26, 2022; and in Kelantan, Terengganu (Besut, Setiu, Kuala Nerus, and Kuala Terengganu), Pahang (Jerantut and Maran), and Johor (Segamat, Batu Pahat, and Pontian) from today (Wednesday, Dec 21, 2022) through Thursday, 22 Dec, 2022.

Meanwhile, under the Continuous Heavy Rain (Bad) warning, the affected areas are expected to occur in Terengganu (Hulu Terengganu, Marang, Dungun, and Kemaman) from today (Wednesday, Dec 21, 2022) through Thursday, 22 Dec, 2022; and in Pahang (Kuantan, Pekan, and Rompin), Johor (Kluang, Mersing, Kulai, Kota Tinggi, and Johor Bahru) from today (Wednesday, Dec 21, 2022) through Thursday, 22 Dec, 2022. — DayakDaily
