BELAGA, Aug 6: Jalan Menjawah-Belaga, the road connecting Bakun road to Belaga town, may be upgraded to R3 standard with two lanes under the Belaga Development Plan, says Belaga assemblyman Datuk Liwan Lagang.
He said the master plan is still being screened by the Sarawak Planning Authority (SPA) and once the plan is implemented, it will include other facility upgrades such as increasing parking lots in town.
“We are waiting for the Belaga Development Plan. It is now being screened by SPA. So, for any development for Belaga (town), we will use that master plan.
“From R1-modified (standard), maybe next time we go to R3 (standard for the Menjawah-Belaga Road),” he told DayakDaily when met yesterday (Aug 5) at Belaga Regatta 2023.
Meanwhile, community leader Temenggung Ajang Sirek said it is critical for the Menjawah-Belaga Road to be upgraded to at least two lanes for the safety of road users.
He said it can be risky to drive on the preset hilly road especially with its sharp corners and many blind spots.
“It is also too narrow for two cars moving in opposite directions. Sometimes when accidents happen, you can’t blame any one side because there are no two lanes (sic),” he added. — DayakDaily
