KUCHING, May 11: Members of the media and Pakatan Harapan (PH) supporters have gathered at the Cheras Rehabilitation Hospital following rumours that de-facto Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim may be released from prison today, reports Sinar Harian.

This follows the revelation by Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad at a press conference earlier today.

He said during a meeting between the four leaders of the opposition coalition with Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V yesterday, the monarch has indicated to Democratic Action Party (DAP) secretary-general Lim Guan Eng that he was willing to pardon Anwar immediately.

“We will go through the proper process of obtaining pardon for Anwar,” said Dr Mahathir, adding that it is going to be a full pardon, which means that Anwar will not only be pardoned but also released immediately and be free to participate fully in politics.

According to Sinar Harian, Anwar’s daughter Nurul Izzah Anwar when met, said some documentation needed to be completed.

“Insya-Allah. He will be released today,” she was reported as saying.

However, in an online news article time stamped at 4.28pm today, Astro Awani reported Nurul Izzah denying that Anwar would be released today.

“Soon to be released, it’s just a matter of days. How I wish it was today,” she told Astro Awani via WhatsApp. — DayakDaily
